Welcome to the Bodhi Tree. If you are here to sit underneath a pipal tree in the hopes of recreating the awakening of the Buddha,
you would better served chopping it down for fire wood. If instead you realize you are connected to the same source of wisdom and
compassion to which the Buddha awoke, the revelation of the Hebrew prophets, the truth Christ preached, the source of insight for
saints and mystics of many faiths -- the awareness of reality-as-It-Is -- then you are already under the Bodhi Tree wherever you are.
Lost or adrift? Seeking the experience of transcendent in the immanent? Searching for meaning in the madness of modernized living? Longing for a genuine connection to our common humanity? Don't just be a shallow consumer, trying to feed your needs with commercialism and the latest fad. Choose to be an active citizen of your society and the globe. Let's help each other wake up to our gifts and our responsibilities to our world.

A really great way to spend a few minutes saving a life. The effort/cost to benefit ration is staggering. Our wait in between donations is up, so we are
scheduled to go in tomorrow. Are you donating?

Rob donates regularly. Usually my iron level is too low and they can't/won't take mine.

I asked about the iron thing today, and one of the people at the bloodbank says some folks can get their iron levels high enough by eating foods rich in iron
and/or taking supplements 3-4 days before donating. Of course, you may have tried that already, but I thought I would pass it on.

Thanks for asking. Unfortunately i've had problems with my iron level (and repeated "iron deficiency anemia" diagnoses) since i was a pre-teen. I
take iron daily. Eating right is a struggle, but i try!
Rob donates faithfully to hopefully make up for my lack of ability to.

When I was living in Pittsburgh I got into donating blood to the regional blood supplier, the Central Blood Bank. Then I moved to North Carolina for a year and was living way too far away. After moving back to PA
last summer to a town two hours from Pittsburgh, I found out they had a mobile unit that comes to this town two days a week and they got me doing double reds
(longer between donations than for whole blood, but they seemed really in need of double red donations).
So I got a large envelope today, and inside was a letter of appreciation and a certificate for my donations as part of a new program to recognize donors. I guess my donations added up for a Brightest award for the year. Just logged in and now I can access my donation history, points earned since this reward program, and the stuff they test for (blood pressure, pulse, cholesterol levels, etc) from each visit. WOW. From the past two years...
Ugh, not a good trend for the old blood pressure, and assuming that cholesterol is for the "bad" LDLs... Aye caramba!! From the American Heart Association... Less than 200 mg/dL: DesirableI guess that random doctor I saw as part of my crap insurance coverage nearly a decade ago who said my cholesterol was high and sent me home with a huge list of things I can't eat (including no red meat and no fried foods -psshh right) was right. Better be posting and texting me quick while I am still on this Earthly plane!

I told you this elsewhere but i'll say it again...in spite of your psshh...
Rob's "bad" cholesterol was in the 250-ish range and the only lifestyle or diet change he made was giving up red meat (beef and pork) and his level at last check was 162. It has been as low as the 150's but he has gotten worse about fried foods (fried shrimp, fried chicken, french fries, etc) so i think that accounts for the difference. Still, just cutting out the red meat made that huge drop in a 2-year span. And *no one* was more of a "meat and potatoes" kinda guy than Rob, so i know if he could do it then anyone can. Even cutting back to once a week or a couple of times a month would help a lot. edit: and your temp is kinda low too - what's up with that? you aren't craving brains or anything are you?

Yeah, it's a kind of slow motion suicide if one thinks about it. Same with heavy drinkers and smokers.

I can't donate blood because I lived in Britain during the mad cow years. There is no test to see if my blood would put a person at risk (which means that
I guess there is no test for myself either!).
