Welcome to the Bodhi Tree. If you are here to sit underneath a pipal tree in the hopes of recreating the awakening of the Buddha,
you would better served chopping it down for fire wood. If instead you realize you are connected to the same source of wisdom and
compassion to which the Buddha awoke, the revelation of the Hebrew prophets, the truth Christ preached, the source of insight for
saints and mystics of many faiths -- the awareness of reality-as-It-Is -- then you are already under the Bodhi Tree wherever you are.
Lost or adrift? Seeking the experience of transcendent in the immanent? Searching for meaning in the madness of modernized living? Longing for a genuine connection to our common humanity? Don't just be a shallow consumer, trying to feed your needs with commercialism and the latest fad. Choose to be an active citizen of your society and the globe. Let's help each other wake up to our gifts and our responsibilities to our world.

Ohmigosh, the ads! |

I use Firefox with Adblock Plus, so i never see ads, but my computer just convinced me after several days of nagging to upgrade to IE8 so i figured i'd
give it a whirl. I took at look at my yuku board and egads! There are ads right in the middle of people's posts! And flash-based ads with talking and music
on the boards and in profiles! How obnoxious. Do most people see these things or do most folks use an ad-blocker like i do?

I tend to use Firefox with the NoScript add-on. So any Javascript, Java, etc that isn't approved doesn't run. So if it is something I want to run, I
can select from a list of scripts generated for each page which domains I want to accept. Hence when I go to a new page for the first time I usually have to
"accept" a couple domains to allow it work OK, but afterward the program remembers my preferences. The ones for ads I skip.
I got IE8 and tried it as my main browser over the weekend. It has some nice features, but it also had some annoyances like putting text in quotes when I hit the indent button here on Yuku.

I hate all things Microsoft. ;)
I use that script blocking function - same as tiny - so I select what I want to see. But before that, yes I did see all that stuff. -sgtt. |

The Google ads are the best though as they try to place ads based on the page content. One I saw here before I blocked it was a video ad for going on a retreat
to a Buddhist temple.

The google text ads aren't bad but video ads in general are just terrible, especially the ones that spread half across the page and you have to seek out
and click the tiny "x" or "close" to get them to stop.
